Davenport desk in walnut root, England, 19th century.
Small and narrow desk with top inclined table and box with lid, located on a piece of furniture with four drawers. Its shape responds to the type known as Davenport desk: upper part with storage space and similar to a school desk, two columns inside, lateral drawer ... The name comes from the first commission of a piece with these characteristics, made by Captain Davenport to Gillows of Lancaster at the end of the 18th century. It was a very popular desk for the next century."
