PAIR OF CORBELS. POLYCHROMED AND GILDED WOOD. CASTILLE, SPAIN, 18TH CENTURY.

Reference: ZF0302

Pair of brackets. Carved and polychrome wood. Castilla, 18th century.
Pair of equal brackets, each formed by a base of staggered moldings of classic souvenir, these decorated with a composition made of contrasting tips and tornapuntas enhanced with plant elements, which serve as the basis for turned shapes, flowers and angel heads winged (only the latter polychromatic figurative elements, the rest have been overdosed).
Although in the eighteenth century you can see influences of Neoclassicism in this type of altarpiece, it is not at all rare the survival of a strong influence of Baroque models with certain Rococo touches. The contrast of a concave volute with another convex below can also be seen, for example, in the corbels of the missing altarpiece of the Virgin of Copacabana in Madrid in the 18th century (although simpler than the present pair)."
