Christ of Burgos. Wood, metal. Spanish school, 19th century. A rectangular pedestal supports a Latin cross with finials at its three upper corners. It bears the customary inscription "INRI" and a distinctive figure of Christ crucified, draped in a long loincloth and with an oval element at his feet. Known as the Holy Christ of Burgos, this anonymous 14th-century articulated sculpture is located in the Chapel of the Holy Christ of Burgos (Burgos Cathedral, Spain) and has been highly prized since ancient times. Weight: 750 grams.
