Candlesticks couple. Gilded and golden bronze. France, 19th century
Pair of candlesticks of ten lights each made in gilded and browned bronze that have a base of circular base (decorated with reliefs of plant themes and plant elements with mirrors and shapes reminiscent of rockery), a half-naked child figure standing and holding up a torch, from which the branches that end in the lights of the chandeliers arise.
The combination of gilded bronze with lumber elements (in this case, children's figures and the torches they hold) are common in prominent examples of French decorative arts of the nineteenth century. As for the figures, the presence of children (putti, young fauns, etc.) is also frequent, being able to compare the present couple with outstanding works such as those performed by the Moreau ("Enfant Torchère" by August Moreau [1834-1917] )."
