Lion of Fu or Buddha. Peking glass, wooden base. China, 20th century. Beijing glass, also known as Kangxi or Qianlong glass, refers to a specific type of glass manufactured in Beijing, China, since the 18th century. It shows clear Western influence and is largely designed to imitate or evoke jade work, employing a layered technique reminiscent of cameo glass. The lions of Buddha are mythical creatures from Eastern tradition, originating in Buddhism, that protect against evil spirits, negative energies, and malicious people.
