Calamine sculpture. Signed “Aug. Moreau.” Following models by Auguste Moreau, France, 19th century. It is reminiscent of works such as the bronze titled “The Fountain” by Mathurin Moreau, and pieces by Hyppolyte Moreau or Auguste Moreau (France, 1834 – 1917). Auguste began his training as a disciple of his older brother Mathurin. He debuted at the Paris Salon in 1861, where he participated regularly until 1913. He was also a member of the Société des Artistes Français. His themes - genre scenes, pastoral, allegorical - and his style, realistic and full of grace, link him with other members of the Moreau dynasty, known for their small-sized bronze works that were widely reproduced and inspired many other masters, both during the artists' lives and after their deaths.

Classic marble powder corbel. Under a simple molding, a scroll has been placed with an open center, revealing a distressed shape in another tone whose lines it follows. This bichrome can be seen in other architectural details of the corbel, such as the oval shield with volutes in the lower area, or the three drops in the center. Although the inspiration in elements from Antiquity is clear, these have been used freely, giving rise to a work of art of great originality.

The sandbox or sandbox, the duster and the inkwell have clear lines and smooth areas, combined with fine moldings resembling a cord; The oval box with a lid topped with a knob shows smooth moldings on its entire exterior surface. Chimney plate with Picador. Molten iron. Spain, early 20th century. Fireplace background plate made of cast iron with a rectangular shape and decorated with reliefs on the front. The upper part presents a composition of leaves flanking a smooth shield, and is extended along the sides and the lower area thanks to a series of lines and more leaves of classicist influence in the corners. The front shows a figurative fighting scene, with a picador (or garrochista or varilarguero) spearing a bull, which charges the horse that the rider is riding. This type of piece was already used in the Gothic period, and outstanding examples are preserved, such as the one on the Imperial shield of Charles V (dated to the 16th century; Lázaro Galdiano Museum in Madrid), for example. Although heraldry is considered by some experts to be the most unusual decoration of these objects, we have received pieces with mythological or pastoral scenes, architectural elements, religious motifs, etc. The present one, in addition to presenting an interesting decoration due to its historical value in the study of the fight, it is necessary to highlight the quality and depth of the reliefs it shows.
