VOLTAIRE ARMCHAIR IN “PALO SANTO” (HOLY WOOD).

Decorative Antiques -
Reference: Z6481

“Voltaire” armchair in rosewood. The "Voltaire" chair is a particular style of armchair with arms, a low seat, and a high back, which became very popular during the reign of Louis-Philippe I of France (1773-1850; monarch from 1830 to 1848). The name likely derives from its association with the French writer François-Marie Arouet (1694-1778), better known by his pen name, Voltaire. The chair features two casters on its front legs, simple carved decoration, and upholstery resembling tapestry on the arms, back, and seat.
