VOLTAIRE ARMCHAIR IN “PALO SANTO” (HOLY WOOD).

Decorative Antiques - Furniture
Reference: Z6481

“Voltaire” armchair in rosewood wood. A particular chair that has arms, a low seat and a high backrest is known as a “Voltaire” armchair, which became really popular during the reign of Louis-Philippe I of France (1773-1850; monarch from 1830 to 1848). The name is probably due to the association with the French writer François-Marie Arouet (1694-1778), better known by his pseudonym, Voltaire. The furniture has two wheels on its front legs, simple carved decoration and an upholstery that resembles a tapestry on the arms, backrest and seat.
