Pair of axemen. Wrought iron. 20th century. A pair of wrought iron candelabras or torch holders with four curved, finial legs and a baluster-shaped shaft decorated with discs and a vase-like knob. Also called torch holders, these lighting fixtures were commonly used in important houses and civil and religious institutions in Spain, dating back to the Gothic period. Stylistically, they exhibit elements typical of the Spanish school of Baroque design.
