Antiques - Miscellaneus / Graphic Work
Reference: Z2778

“Pianta della Spelonca… Lake Albano”. Framed engraving. PIRANESI, Giovanni Battista. Around 1762. Signed on the plate (lower left area). Shows damage. Architectural engraving made by Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778), as indicated in the lower left area, within the same engraving (Piranesi F[ecit]), which represents a cave located on the shores of Lake Albano (PIANTA della Spelonca ornata dagli antichi in riva al Lago Albano, ed accennata nella FAvola I. de'disegni dell¡Emissario alla fig. I. Lett.D). Two editions of this engraving (plate dated around 1762) are known, with copies preserved in important museums: Firmin Didont Frères [active in Paris 1827-1829/ after 1837] and another from around 1930. The paper on the back of the frame indicates that the present edition is from around 1762 (“Approbatio i edició de 1762”), next to the seal of the Sala D'Art Artur Ramon in Barcelona, founded in 1911 and still active today., detectedSourceLanguage: es
