Extendable table. Mahogany wood, metal. England, 19th century. This rectangular table extends via panels and a manually operated mechanical system controlled by a crank. It is crafted from carved mahogany with metal elements (leg ends, mechanism, and pulleys). The top is smooth, with a slight bevel towards the edges that curves the area and extends to the corners of the piece, enhancing its usability as a dining or conference table. The legs feature exquisite carving and turning, with a stipe-like shape and a reminiscent of architectural columns due to their combination of moldings. The polygonal base is particularly noteworthy, as is the fact that it retains the small metal wheels or pulleys that facilitate movement. Both the wood chosen for the table (mahogany) and the lack of decorative elements (which highlights the quality of the material and the lines) are common characteristics of antique English furniture. Note the similarities with Victorian-style English pieces.
