“Bracket” table clock with automata and chime. Metal, glass, etc. Spencer & Perkins. London, 1765-1806. Perfect working condition. The clock features a lacquered case with gilt bronze mounts and an architectural structure with stylized pilasters, etc., in a style that blends elements of clear classical influence with details reminiscent of the Rococo period, such as bronze latticework and a dome. The front has a transparent glass door to protect both the interior space containing automata depicting peasants in a natural setting and the dial beneath. Enameled in white, the dial bears the Spencer & Perkins signature (and the place of manufacture, "London") and Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals every five minutes on the outer edge. Below this dial, also enamelled in white, are two smaller dials: the one on the left indicates whether the clock is in sound or mute mode, and the one on the right indicates whether a song is playing, marching, etc. On the back, an engraved plaque with plant motifs displays the name of the company that created the piece and its place of manufacture. It features a musical option that plays while the automata move, along with the typical chimes of this type of clock on the hour. The clockmakers Spencer & Perkins worked between 1765 and 1806 in London (at 44 Snow Hill). English watchmaking achieved a high level of technical perfection, reflected in the precision of its mechanisms, and its models are distinguished by their understated elegance and clean lines compared to French watchmaking. Weight: 17 kg.
