Wine press. Wood, metal. Spain, circa 1800. A wooden grape press with two screws on the sides for manually moving the upper press section, which also includes a piece to fit into a container for the fruit. Note the crossbars and legs for easy transport. This type of agricultural machinery was very common in the past, although few examples remain today, having been replaced by technological advances, especially those that emerged after the Industrial Revolution. They were used in monasteries and other centers where grapes were pressed for the production of wine and other beverages.
