Reliquary medallion. Silver, glass, etc. Spanish school, 17th century. Minor faults. Reliquary medallion with a frame composed of an outer spiral and two thin, flat sides decorated with lines forming diamond-shaped squares, ending in a ring for hanging. The sides, protected by beveled transparent glass panels (with minor imperfections), feature, on one side, three relics (two with cartouches written in black ink) framed with vegetal motifs beneath a hand-painted angel with scrolls and other elements; on the other side appears a hand-painted figurative scene, also with Christian themes. Both scenes are painted on the same oval plaque. The relics depicted are identified as Saint Teresa (perhaps Saint Teresa of Jesus or of Ávila, founder of the Discalced Carmelite Order and canonized in 1622) and Saint Andrew Corsino (an Italian Carmelite, Bishop of Fiesole, canonized by Urban VIII in 1629). The third relic is a textile fragment that may also have belonged to an important saint in the Carmelite order, like the other two mentioned. The scene shown on the other side may be a representation of the Holy Family, or, more likely, the Virgin Mary as a baby with her parents, Saint Joachim and Saint Anne. Weight: 73 grams.
