Decorative solid wood ship's wheel with clock. Six turned masts, alternating baluster and block, converge towards the center to form the wheel, secured midway by a curve; in the center is a clock face with Roman numerals. The ship's wheel, or simply rudder, is the modern method for changing the course of ships, employed since approximately the beginning of the 18th century.
