Pair of enameled porcelain figurines. “Pair of musical monkeys”. Inspired by models from the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres (France). One of the animals appears dressed as a woman, singing with a book in one hand and playing a cello in the other. These types of figures were highly prized in Europe from the late 18th century onward for their exoticism, and were produced by all the major porcelain factories. This particular piece can be linked to creations of the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres (France).
