Castilian chest. Walnut wood, wrought iron and polychrome. Spain, 17th century. A rectangular chest with a flat lid, slightly raised on spheres, decorated on the exterior with smooth moldings at the top and bottom, and fittings (handles on the sides and a lock shield) carved into vegetal and geometric motifs. Of particular note is the interior compartment on one side, secured with a lock and decorated with an exterior ironwork panel that retains its original polychromy (as do some of the other fittings on the piece), featuring a design of volutes and vegetal elements reminiscent of the Renaissance and with a marked classical influence.
