Haisen. Painted glazed porcelain. Japan, possibly first half of the 20th century. It has damage at the base. A white porcelain vessel with a circular base and a semi-spherical body with four small handles (two on each side), decorated with a floral and leaf motif, a perched bird on one side, and black lettering on the other. These vessels were used to wash sake cups during certain ceremonies and gatherings, resulting in a wide variety of shapes and decorations throughout their history.
