Its author, Enrique Pérez Escrich (Valencia, October 6, 1829-Madrid, April 24, 1897), also known by his pseudonyms Carlos Peña-Rubia and Tello, was a Spanish writer and playwright, and is considered one of the Spanish masters of the nineteenth-century serial novel.
