Cameo or intaglio, Triptolemus. Glass. 19th century. A mythological scene bearing the Greek word "karilaos" (a pseudo-signature) depicts a young man standing before a chariot drawn by a monster with a serpent's body, feathered wings, and two heads, in which another male figure is also present. Triptolemus was a demigod and hero of Greek mythology, often represented as a young man with a diadem on his head, his winged chariot drawn by dragons or serpents. These types of pieces were produced in significant numbers, as they were highly valued as souvenirs by Grand Tour travelers.
