Gate with pass-through. Wrought iron. Spain, 17th century. A rectangular iron gate with a central crossbar, a frame, and supports for upright mounting. The vertical bars feature opposing baluster-like shapes and a series of discs and small, smooth moldings, all arranged symmetrically around the horizontal crossbar. On either side, two square-section bars display a series of smooth moldings and architectural decoration with a strong classical influence. Compare, for example, with the works preserved in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, or the confessional in the Metropolitan Museum of New York dated 1629 (inv 57.137.51) and with another in the same museum, a work by Francisco González (inv 56-234.12 Ad).
