Pair of candlesticks. Bronze. 16th century. A pair of bronze candlesticks with a raised, circular base enhanced by projecting, smooth moldings, a central axis decorated with discs, and a bulbous upper section. They belong to the type known as "spool candlesticks" and were common in certain European schools; for example, they can already be found in Spanish Gothic pieces, becoming very common thereafter. Over the following centuries, details such as the proportions of the base, its lines, and the upper finial would be varied, adapting them to the taste of each period.
