Devotional pendant, Virgin and Saint Joseph with Child. Gold, etc. Possibly Spain, 18th century. Devotional medallion with a gold frame, decorated with elements clearly influenced by French Neoclassical styles (vases at the top, garlands with ribbons, vegetal motifs, etc.). One side depicts the Virgin Mary with her hands on her chest in prayer. The other shows Saint Joseph with the Child Jesus, identified by his flowering staff. The beads, made of carved wood, are similar to those used in Majorcan school rosaries, decorated with fine, parallel carved lines and finished in a very dark tone. The composition of both religious figurative scenes is reminiscent of Rococo works in their colors, but also shows the clear influence of Spanish Baroque models.
