Tabletop. Marble. Following antique designs. A circular marble tabletop with inlays of other colored marbles features a geometric design resembling a compass rose, with an eight-pointed star framing a smaller one. The technique is very similar to marquetry, but uses marbles and hard stones (over 7 on the Mohs scale) to create these designs. Desks, tabletops, and other objects were made using this "hard stone work" technique. Lapis lazuli was commonly used with a Belgian marble base, often accompanied by jade, chalcedony, and other stones. The high cost of the materials and skilled labor made these works of art so expensive that they were only purchased by the leading houses and courts of the time, and are therefore now found only in prominent private collections and major museums.

Friar's chair. Leather, walnut wood. Spain, 16th century. It has faults. A high-backed armchair of the type known as a "frailero" (friar's chair), featuring studded leather on the upper part of the back (not present on the seat), low-profile stretchers connecting the front and rear legs, and medium stretchers or side rails (the front one carved and cut to create geometric patterns) joining the two front and two rear legs, and simple armrests with raised scroll finials. Originally of Italian origin, the frailero armchair became one of the most common pieces of Spanish furniture after its introduction in the 16th century, being characteristic of that century and the 17th, and experiencing a revival in the historicist movement of the 19th century. Because it was such a deeply rooted tradition in Spain, this type of chair continued to be produced throughout the centuries.

Fireplace plate with chimney pot. Cast iron. Spain, early 20th century. A rectangular cast iron fireplace surround decorated with reliefs on the front. The upper section features a composition of leaves flanking a plain shield, extending along the sides and lower section with a series of lines and more leaves of classical influence at the corners. The front depicts a figurative bullfighting scene, with a picador (or lancer) spearing a bull, which charges the horse he is riding. This type of piece was already used in the Gothic period, and outstanding examples survive, such as the one bearing the Imperial coat of arms of Charles V (dated 16th century; Lázaro Galdiano Museum, Madrid). While heraldry is considered by some experts to be the most unusual decoration on these objects, pieces with mythological or pastoral scenes, architectural elements, religious motifs, and other motifs have also come down to us. This particular piece, in addition to its interesting decoration and historical value in the study of bullfighting, is noteworthy for the quality and depth of its reliefs.

Collection of engravings. “Goya’s Bullfighting”. Special edition directed by Antonio de Horna. 1815-1983. Madrid, Culture and Art Collection, De Horna Publishers. 39 plates. Antonio de Horna directed this compilation of the series of engravings from Francisco de Goya's (1746-1828) *La Tauromaquia*, composed of 39 engravings and first published in 1816, along with eleven other prints considered "unpublished" because they did not appear in that first edition. It seems he intended to illustrate passages from Nicolás Fernández de Moratín's 1777 work, *Carta histórica sobre el origen y progreso de las corridas de toros en España* (Historical Letter on the Origin and Progress of Bullfighting in Spain), to which he added personal recollections and some famous bullfighting incidents from the painter's time.

Angel, archangel or saint, on a base. Carved and polychrome wood, textile, etc. Spanish school, 17th century. It has defects. A sculpture made of carved, polychromed, and gilded wood depicting a young male figure dressed in armor with a classical feel, which also features a jewel (or remnants of one) on the chest. The drapery, which shows traces of gilding, is draped in a slight movement. Iconographically, the absence of attributes makes clear identification impossible, although comparing the pose and the armor suggests it could be a carving of Saint Michael the Archangel (note the two hollows in the back, where the wings would have been).
