Pair of chairs. Ebonized pear wood, textile. France, 19th century. A pair of chairs made of carved, turned, and ebonized pear wood with high, openwork backs decorated with balustrade-like forms. These lines are repeated in the legs (curved outwards), which are secured with stretchers. The backs and fronts of the chairs are further decorated with a series of simplified lines and plant motifs, in keeping with Neoclassical taste.
