Devotional plaque, Saint Benedict of Nursia. Bronze. Spanish school, 17th century. A rectangular bronze devotional plaque with a ring at the top, a molded frame, and a relief sculpture on the front. It depicts a man in a habit, standing and holding a staff in one hand, with a sunburst or burst of glory in the upper left corner, and a book and mitre at the bottom. This is Saint Benedict of Nursia, a Christian monk considered the founder of monasticism in the West and venerated as a saint by the Catholic, Orthodox, and Lutheran Churches. Weight: 135 grams.
