METAL INLAY WOODEN BOX. POSSIBLY FRENCH SCOOL, 19TH CENTURY.
Decorative Antiques - Miscellaneus
Reference: Z0503
Box with metal marquetry. Wood, metal. Possibly French school, 19th century. It shows damage. It requires restoration. A rectangular casket with a flat lid features a dark wood interior decorated with two metal lines on the lid, and a black exterior with carved decorations (one molding towards the base and another at the top) and metal marquetry inlays. The marquetry is concentrated around the lock opening and the top of the lid (a composition of polychrome vegetal and architectural elements, centered and connected by lines). Both the style of decoration and the colors used are reminiscent of Napoleon III pieces from the French school.
