Collection of engravings by Gustave Doré (1832-1883). “Madrid, Engravings by Gustave Doré”. Special edition directed by Antonio de Horna. Madrid, Culture and Art Collection, De Horna Publishers. A collection of engravings by Gustave Doré, curated by Antonio de Horna and best known for his work on an edition of "Don Quixote" published in London in 1880, which was a resounding success. Having achieved success in France, he moved to England, where he was even more highly regarded for his depictions of Victorian life and customs in the mid-19th century. In this same book, Antonio de Horna includes a brief biography of the artist, explaining the intention behind this collection: "His true glory... would come to him... when his undeniable genius, embodied in more than ten thousand drawings and engravings, was recognized."
