Lacquered tray. Japan, possibly 19th century. An oval tray lacquered in dark red with a raised rim and decorative elements in various shades, most notably gold, forming flowers, stems, and butterflies. It is very similar to pieces made in Japan at the end of the Edo period or during the Meiji era, but also to more or less contemporary Chinese works.
