Devotional pendant in gold and enamel, Mary Magdalene and Saint John the Baptist, 18th century. Possibly Mallorcan. One of the panes of glass is cracked. An oval pendant adorned around its edge with turned gold ribbons and small metallic beads. One side depicts Mary Magdalene as a hermit, holding a skull, a cross, and a book; the other shows Saint John the Baptist, accompanied by a cross and a lamb, alluding to the Gospel passage. These types of pieces were highly valued by their owners as devotional objects and could also contain a relic.
