Table clock, Apollo. Bronze, marble. Model by LENOIR-RAVRIO, Louis-Stanislas (1783-1846). Paris, circa 1820. Table clock composed of a stepped rectangular base made of red veined marble with gilt bronze elements of clear classical influence (molding of architectural motifs, a set of garlands, and elements linked with interlacing patterns), and the clock face area, situated on a stepped pedestal, upon which sits a patinated bronze figure representing the god Apollo (note the gilt bronze lyre he holds in one hand). The gilt bronze dial with various finishes features Roman numerals, Breguet-style hands, and the inscription “L. RAVRIO BRONZIER / A PARIS”, referring to the creator of the bronzes of the piece. Louis-Stanislas Lenoir-Ravrio (Paris, 1783-Ivry, 1846), the adopted son of André-Antoine Ravrio (1759-1814), was one of the leading bronze casters of his time (his father was also one), and they worked together for several years (until 1814). He officially joined his father's business in 1811, gaining considerable recognition for his work at the Garde-Meuble and for his participation in International and National Exhibitions.
