Glass cooler or chiller. With markings on the base. White clay. Royal Porcelain Factory of Buen Retiro (Madrid, Spain), circa 1784-1803. A soft clay piece with wavy edges, used to hold the stems of glasses and chill them when the container is filled with ice or similar material. On the exterior, it features two handles shaped like plant elements and small reliefs on the front (also enhanced by gilding) framing floral bouquets with colored leaves. It is possible that the piece belongs to the second or intermediate period of the Royal Porcelain Factory of Buen Retiro in Madrid, established in the Spanish capital from 1760 onwards thanks to Charles III; this period corresponds to the tenures of Carlos Scheppers and Felipe Gricci, and continues the Italian influence, adding a connection with other styles (English, Saxon).
