Neo-Renaissance coat rack. Beech wood, metal. 19th century. Wall-mounted coat rack made of carved beech wood with metal elements, decorated with turned “columns” and carvings with architectural, plant and animal themes and a tondo with the profile of a knight inspired by the Renaissance. The upper part has hangers for coats, jackets, etc., and, towards the middle of the piece of furniture, there are two turned metal rods for holding walking sticks or umbrellas.

Lacquered tray. Japan, possibly 19th century. Dark red lacquered oval tray with a raised rim and decorative elements in various shades, most notably gold, forming flowers, stems, and butterflies. It is very similar to pieces made in Japan during the late Edo period or the Meiji era, but also to more or less contemporary Chinese works.

Venus and Mercury, relief. Molded alabaster. 20th century, Inspired by the model of SPRANGER, Bartholomäus (1546-1611). Panel with figurative relief and a fine frame around it made of polychrome marble powder, presenting a mythological theme. Standing Venus is accompanied by a child figure and her son Cupid; to the left, Mercury appears, with his usual headdress and caduceus in one hand. The piece is inspired by a painting by Bartholomäus Spranger made around 1585, which is kept in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. Weight: 5 kg.

Bronze peace bearer. The plaque that forms this element, used in ancient times in mass to give the kiss of peace with decorum, has been decorated with various reliefs: in the lower part, vegetal scrolls, vine leaves, bunches of grapes and ears of wheat, in clear allusion to the Eucharist; a semicircular arch under a palm-shaped finial highlighted with scrolls; and, in the centre, a relief of the Deesis: Christ on the Cross, flanked by the Virgin Mary and Saint John the Evangelist. The decorative motifs of this work, like the figures, show a clear influence from classical antiquity.

Hand-colored engraving from the series “The Voyages of Captain Cook”, which is number 34 in said series (“Voyage das L'Hemisphere Austral, et autour du Monde, fait sur les Vaisseaux de Roi, L, Aventure & la Resolution…” Written by Jacques Cook, Commedant de la Resolution…1778 Volume II, plate 34), and was made by Robert Bénard (active 1750-1785), who was the first to make engravings based on the diagrams, drawings and paintings of places that William Hodges visited while accompanying Cook on his second voyage (1772-1775).

Mirror. Embossed metal, glass. 19th century. Signed. Wall mirror with a frame made of embossed metal decorated with an architectural composition with a marked classicist taste and Italian reminiscence, flanked above by two embracing putti and below by two monstrous grotesques. The signature is found under the head of one of these two mythological figures. The theme of child figures or embracing putti was common in art from the 17th century onwards, but especially during the Rococo period, and continued to be used afterwards. Grotesques were common from the Renaissance onwards.

Modernist vase. Glass, metal. Portugal, Topazio Casquinha, circa 1900. No marks. A rectangular, clear glass vessel decorated with a silver-plated metal element that displays neoclassical influences (the eagle on the top, scrolls, cornucopia, etc.) and also features a lady in a dancing pose, which displays more characteristic elements of modernism. Despite the lack of markings, it has been compared to pieces by Topazio Casquinha, highlighting the resemblance.
