Pair of cornucopias. Carved and gilded wood. 18th century. Pair of carved and gilded wooden cornucopias decorated with a fine molding on the inside and an elaborate composition of plant elements with scallop-like shapes on the outside, leaving empty spaces and with a marked asymmetry in both, tempered by carving both examples with the same decoration. These types of mirrors were only made for grand houses, as their primary purpose was to reflect the light from candles and lamps in these luxurious interiors, thus showcasing the wealth of their owners. The method of manufacturing mirrors from sheets of glass was discovered in Venice in the 16th century and remained a secret for about a century, until the role of mercury in the process became known in London and Paris, allowing for the widespread use of these materials. However, the use of cornucopias did not become widespread in Europe until the Rococo period, and their use and creation have continued ever since. From the beginning, and with the intention of displaying the owner's wealth and aiding in illumination, it was customary to gild them after they were carved. The movement of the pieces inside, where the mirror would have been, provides an initial clue to their artistic style. As for their decoration, the vegetal elements, the volutes, the curved forms contrasting with counter-curves, and the scallop-shell details clearly indicate that both pieces belong to the Rococo period, distinguishing them from both the more Neoclassical-influenced 18th-century examples and those of the 19th century. The asymmetry in the decoration of each cornucopia points to the beginnings of this style, since, over time, the contrasts characteristic of this artistic style were softened, resulting in more symmetrical compositions.

Glass cooler or chiller. With markings on the base. White clay. Royal Porcelain Factory of Buen Retiro (Madrid, Spain), circa 1784-1803. A soft clay piece with wavy edges, used to hold the stems of glasses and chill them when the container is filled with ice or similar material. On the exterior, it features two handles shaped like plant elements and small reliefs on the front (also enhanced by gilding) framing floral bouquets with colored leaves. It is possible that the piece belongs to the second or intermediate period of the Royal Porcelain Factory of Buen Retiro in Madrid, established in the Spanish capital from 1760 onwards thanks to Charles III; this period corresponds to the tenures of Carlos Scheppers and Felipe Gricci, and continues the Italian influence, adding a connection with other styles (English, Saxon). Mirror with cabochon frame. Silver, enamel, wood, stucco, etc. Mexican school, 17th century. No contrast markings. It has flaws. Mirror with a slightly rectangular frame made of wood with polychrome areas and a repoussé silver plating over stucco, enhanced with enamel cabochons featuring geometric elements in dark and light blue. The front features a series of plain moldings, one of which bears the aforementioned polychromy. The silver band extends around the exterior of the piece, with exposed wood at the corners and plain silver bands (two on each side), and a somewhat three-dimensional decoration combining architectural elements of clear classical influence (in the center of which are the enamel cabochons), flanked in the longer areas by compositions with scrolls, volutes, plant motifs, and fruit. Stylistically speaking, the work can be linked to pieces using the same technique produced in Mexico, primarily reliquaries. Also, as is common due to the influence of the Iberian Peninsula, one might recall works such as the 17th-century Holy Thursday Reliquary from Barbastro. Weight: 5.7 kg.

Christ with Angel. Oil on canvas. 18th century. The painting depicts Christ, clothed, supported by the shoulders or back by an angel, both figures situated in an indeterminate space, accompanied by various symbols of the Passion (cross, chalice). The theme of the dead Christ supported by an angel has been treated several times in art (Antonello da Messina in the 15th century, Fernando Yáñez de la Almedina, Alonso Cano, Jacob Backer the Elder, etc.), with the particularity that, following the text that inspired it, Jesus appears with the loincloth and not fully clothed as in this work.

This oil on canvas depicts the Virgin Mary surrounded by angels, set against a landscape and standing on a crescent moon, wearing a white tunic and blue mantle, following the typical iconography of the Immaculate Conception in the Spanish school, especially since the works of Murillo. Note, however, that instead of stars around her head, a series of angels' heads appear, which is unusual.

Hand-powered "Irish mail" type carriage. First half of the 20th century. A four-wheeled vehicle with a single seat, a front control for propulsion, two levers (one on each side, one acting as a brake and the other controlling movement), and a front acetylene headlight. The front axle is operated by foot pedals for turning. It is very similar to vehicles known as "Irish Mail," which derived from the railcars or handcars used on railway tracks for construction and maintenance. According to another theory, these same railcars, especially when not in use on railways, were called "Irish Mail" cars. See, for example, children's models in the AC McClurg and Co. catalog; the 1938 Irish Mail Deluxe Racer from another company; or the 1920 Ben Hur Racer Irish Mail handcar.

Mortar with inscriptions. Bronze. Spain, 1823. A bronze mortar with an everted mouth and a truncated conical body that tapers continuously towards the base; it has two handles or "pieces" leading to the smooth decorative moldings on the top. Near the edge, the piece features an inscription (I AM FROM D GREGORIO OCANA YEAR 1823) in capital letters and the date in Roman numerals with spaces between them; and the text (reversed from the other) "Mazon fecci"; both flanked by a simple molding above and another below. This large mortar is of the type commonly known as a "hospital mortar," frequently used for preparing medicines in environments with many patients or in important pharmacies. Typologically, it follows the typical style of these examples from the 19th-century Spanish school: smooth, with moldings, and generally lacking the ribs (or derivatives thereof) that were common in earlier mortars. Compare, for example, with the large pharmacy mortar in the Calella Municipal Museum-Archive (with inscription, ribs, and human heads as handles), a large mortar in the Museum of Hispanic Pharmacy at the Complutense University of Madrid, and so on.

The knot is composed of several elements (moldings of varying radii, etc.), among which a central circular body stands out, enhanced with a small cresting and reliefs depicting the four Evangelists accompanied by their Tetramorph element and set in landscapes. Scales with weights. Iron. Widow of José Menaya, Valencia (Spain), around the second half of the 19th century. An iron balance scale consisting of a tilting arm with a structure at each end from which hooks hang, and elements in the center that determine the weight (note the hanging hook, the needle for measuring weights, and the elements that still show traces of gilding). On the front is an inscription in capital letters (Widow of José / Menaya Valencia) related to its place of origin. Accompanying it are a fragment of a chain with elongated links and eight circular weights of varying sizes with rings at the top. José Menaya received an honorable mention for a collection of scales at the Valencia Regional Exhibition of the Economic Society of Friends of the Country in the "public session of 1867." It is stated that in the second room there are "Scales and cash boxes, by José Menaya," and that "the José Menaya workshop" specialized in scales (succeeding Malabouche in this market niche) at the 1909 Valencia Regional Exhibition. The Museum of Hispanic Pharmacy at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain) holds a hand scale with its case belonging to José Menaya, noting that he was a "weight refiner" in Valencia, located on Cerrajeros Street.
