19th century Chinese table. Wood, with carved and lacquered details. An oriental table with a square top, slightly overhanging and supported by corbels at the corners, carved in the shape of cloud scrolls. It stands on four simple circular legs, typical of traditional Chinese furniture, joined by an openwork waist, with a recessed profile, which is decorated with central plates with figurative reliefs and phoenix figures also in relief, on an openwork background, in the corners. In the secondary areas we can see motifs of scrolls, flowers and insects. All the carvings appear decorated with lacquer. The figurative scenes represent dynamic and narrative scenes, set in the ancient imperial court.

Oriental rice container. Wood and metal. China, early 20th century. Chinese rice storage container, made of carved and varnished wood in a reddish tone, with a flattened ovoid body and a flat lid, slightly raised towards the centre. The shoulders are clearly differentiated by an edge enhanced by the application of a metal moulding, similar to that which outlines the foot. Below the shoulders, on both sides, there are two metal handles in the form of an arch, with floral design fastenings. The lid is decorated with a central roundel of wood carved in lowered relief, combining an exterior border of geometric clouds with a double interior profile of mitered curves. In the centre, a small flattened knob with a flower at the base, matching the fastenings of the handles.

Oriental wedding basket. Plant fibre, wood and metal. China, early 20th century. Wedding basket with two articulated compartments, constructed using basketry and reinforced with wooden slats and cut-out, openwork metal fittings. Rectangular in shape and with a free-standing lid, it is decorated with applied metal rosettes and with careful calligraphy on one of the sides. This type of stacked basket, articulated by a simple system of metal pins that can be removed to separate the different compartments, has traditionally been used in China and other Southeast Asian countries to contain gifts and small objects linked to the wedding ritual.
