Firebox. Carved walnut wood. 19th century. A circular brazier stand made of carved walnut wood, featuring simple legs to raise it slightly off the floor and thus distribute heat more evenly throughout the room. These types of stands were very common in interiors until the invention and widespread adoption of other heating systems. However, they are rarely preserved due to their purely utilitarian purpose and their replacement by more modern alternatives as tastes changed or the original deteriorated.
