“Voltaire” armchair in rosewood. The "Voltaire" chair is a particular style of armchair with arms, a low seat, and a high back, which became very popular during the reign of Louis-Philippe I of France (1773–1850; monarch from 1830 to 1848). The name likely derives from its association with the French writer François-Marie Arouet (1694–1778), better known by his pen name, Voltaire. The chair features two casters on its front legs, simple carved decoration, and upholstery resembling tapestry on the arms, back, and seat.

Isabeline style chair. Wood, fabric. Spain, 19th century. A carved and polychrome wooden chair with cabriole legs and a pierced back decorated with a symmetrical composition reminiscent of the Rococo style in some details and Neoclassical elements in others. The Isabelline style developed in Spain during the reign of Isabella II, continuing until the end of the 19th century. The furniture, which prioritized comfort and a degree of ostentation (using relatively inexpensive materials and techniques), interpreted the French Baroque, Rococo, and Neoclassical styles in its own way, with proportions, techniques, and details specific to Spain and the 19th century, characterized by a predominance of gilding, polychromy, carving, and other decorative elements.
