Fountain. Silver. Mateo Martínez Moreno, Córdoba, Spain, 1789. With contrast markings. Silver fountain in its color, oval in shape and great depth, which presents contrast marks and an edge composed of smooth moldings of different widths curved drawing waves, ending in four peaks that extend towards the bottom of the piece, thus drawing a series of curves and countercurves This shape is known as “cut-out profiles,” and was a common resource in 18th century Spanish silversmithing that followed or was influenced by Rococo models. The aforementioned marks (frustras) could place the creation of the work in Córdoba, in the period in which Mateo Martínez Moreno worked as a faithful contrast, also providing the date of 1789.
