Miniature friar's chair. Wood, leather, metal. Spanish school, 19th century. Armchair with arms and high backrest of the type known as a friar's chair, which has chambranes on the legs joining the back with the front and middle chambranes or crossbars at the front with carved plant and architectural elements. The legs have a plant carving that extends along the arms, in the scrolls of the fronts. The back and seat have a leather upholstery (the back is embossed with plant elements), metal studs and textile fringe. The friar's chair, originally of Italian origin, became one of the most common pieces of Spanish furniture since its introduction in the 16th century, being characteristic of this and the 17th century and being recovered again in the historicist movement of the 19th century. Being such a deep-rooted tradition in Spain, this type of model was never stopped being created.

Isabeline style chair. Wood, fabric. Spain, 19th century. A carved and polychrome wooden chair with cabriole legs and a pierced back decorated with a symmetrical composition reminiscent of the Rococo style in some details and Neoclassical elements in others. The Isabelline style developed in Spain during the reign of Isabella II, continuing until the end of the 19th century. The furniture, which prioritized comfort and a degree of ostentation (using relatively inexpensive materials and techniques), interpreted the French Baroque, Rococo, and Neoclassical styles in its own way, with proportions, techniques, and details specific to Spain and the 19th century, characterized by a predominance of gilding, polychromy, carving, and other decorative elements.

Monk's armchair. Carved wood, textile. Spain, 20th century. Also called an “armchair”, this type of seat was very common in Spain despite its Italian origin. It has a backrest and seat upholstered in red fabric, with studs, and carved decorations on the arms, backrest, waist and jambs.
