Two-leaf door with frame, and wrought iron hardware. Soria pine wood and walnut panels, wrought iron. Century XVIII. Two-leaf door with a simple frame decorated with carved walnut wood panels, thus contrasting in tone with the frame and enhancing the composition of a large rectangle interspersed with two small squares placed side by side. The frame is simple, as is usually the case with this type of pieces, and also has flanges and wrought iron fittings. The conservation of these construction elements is not common, given their purely utilitarian purpose and their replacement by more modern ones as soon as tastes change or when the old ones deteriorate.

Chimney plate with Picador. Molten iron. Spain, early 20th century. Fireplace background plate made of cast iron with a rectangular shape and decorated with reliefs on the front. The upper part presents a composition of leaves flanking a smooth shield, and is extended along the sides and the lower area thanks to a series of lines and more leaves of classicist influence in the corners. The front shows a figurative fighting scene, with a picador (or garrochista or varilarguero) spearing a bull, which charges the horse that the rider is riding. This type of piece was already used in the Gothic period, and outstanding examples are preserved, such as the one on the Imperial shield of Charles V (dated to the 16th century; Lázaro Galdiano Museum in Madrid), for example. Although heraldry is considered by some experts to be the most unusual decoration of these objects, we have received pieces with mythological or pastoral scenes, architectural elements, religious motifs, etc. The present one, in addition to presenting an interesting decoration due to its historical value in the study of the fight, it is necessary to highlight the quality and depth of the reliefs it shows.

Collection of engravings by Gustavo Doré (1832-1883). “Madrid, Engravings by Gustavo Doré”. Special edition directed by Antonio de Horna. Madrid, Culture and Art Collection, De Horna Editores. Compilation of engravings directed by Antonio de Horna made by Gustavo Doré, a great draftsman and engraver known, above all, for his work for an edition of “Don Quixote”, published in London in 1880, which was very well received by the public. Successful in France, he moved to England, where he was even more appreciated for his visions of the Victorian atmosphere of the mid-19th century. Antonio de Horna, in this same book, accompanies a brief biography of the author with the intention behind this collection: “his true glory... would come to him... when his indisputable genius, captured in more than ten thousand drawings and engravings, was recognized.” .

Collection of prints. “Goya's Bullfighting”. Special edition directed by Antonio de Horna. 1815-1983. Madrid, Culture and Art Collection, De Horna Editores. 39 sheets. Antonio de Horna directed this compilation of the series of engravings of La Tauromaquia by Francisco de Goya (1746-1828), composed of 39 engravings and published for the first time in 1816, along with eleven other prints called “unpublished” because they did not appear in that first edition. With it, he apparently wanted to illustrate passages from “Historical letter on the origin and progress of bullfighting in Spain”, a work by Nicolás Fernández de Moratín from 1777, to which he added personal memories and some famous events during the painter's time. .
