Reference: Z6213
Renaissance bronze bell, 1555. Dated. Stem decorated with plant elements, the shoulders decorated with elegant lines, the middle presents profiles within plant garlands and two legends above and below in Latin. Bells were used by Catholics to call the faithful as early as the 5th century, but their use in civil and other religions dates back to Greek and Roman times. The relief decoration on this bell places it in the Renaissance, inspired by Roman coins for the profiles and plant elements it depicts. The date on the body also accurately establishes the piece's creation, adding to its value. The inscriptions attest to its religious use.
