Castilian table. Walnut wood, iron. Spain, 17th century.
Restored board (brushed).
Walnut wood table with four legs in the shape of columns, finished below in dice carved on the fronts with geometric elements on which there are two circular shapes; These dice are joined two by two by means of chambranas carved on the front with tabs. The waist of the furniture has this same size of tabs around rectangular shapes on the sides and back (with ovals in the center, enhanced with moldings and circular elements). The front drawer has a decorated lock shield, key closure and two areas on the sides of it with rectangular panels framed by simple geometric shapes.
Compare, for example, with the walnut table with discs on the legs dated to the 17th century that is preserved in the collections of the old Municipal Museum of Madrid; with another dais table in walnut and pine wood with carved drawers and lenticular turned legs from the National Museum of Decorative Arts in Madrid, dated to the 17th century; or with a 17th century Castilian buffet table from the Cervantes Birthplace Museum (Alcalá de Henares, Madrid). Typologically, due to its decoration, it is a model with a long tradition in the Castilian school. Weight: 20kg."
