Reliquary medallion, Saint Catherine of Siena. Miniature, metal, glass. Towards the end of the 18th century. This is a possible convent work featuring a miniature with delicate lacework and metalwork around the edge, housed in a metal medallion with a front and back of cut glass creating waves along the contour. On one side, the miniature depicts a young woman accompanied by the dove of the Holy Spirit, holding a bouquet of white flowers and the IHS emblem surmounted by a cross in a tondo on her chest; the other side displays a relic identified by a small inscription (S. Cath. M.). Sajta Catherine of Siena (1347-1380) was a Dominican laywoman venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church since her canonization in 1461.
