Devotional plaque, Saint Thomas Aquinas. Bronze. Spanish School, 17th-18th centuries. A rectangular bronze devotional plaque with a ring at the top, a molded frame, and a figurative relief on the front. It depicts a man in a habit, standing, holding flowers in one hand and a book in the other, with a burst of glory or sunburst appearing in the upper left corner. This is Saint Thomas Aquinas, priest, friar, theologian, philosopher, and Catholic jurist of the Dominican Order, considered the foremost representative of scholasticism and canonized in the 14th century. Compare this piece with two plaques held in the Lázaro Galdiano Museum in Madrid, Spain. Weight: 149 grams.
